Really? I'm curious as to why you think the LPD will become stronger. I don't see that trend, at least not in boy's sports.

The LPD's last state championship in boys basketball was in 1974, which has been about 33 years ago. I would call that more than a "cycle." At least with Gate City, we did have a team in the championship game in this decade.

In the past two years, the best Divison 2 football teams we've had, not just in the LPD, but the Region have been practically obliterated by Region C.

The LPD's last state baseball championship was in 1998.

So, exactly when is the new and improved LPD supposed to start turning things around?

Indian dad you probably will be gald to see us gone because this will give you a chance to win again. The majority of the LPD will be glad to see us gone and i for one will be glad to see some better competition in the new district.

I have lamented the 1974 drought for years. I have said that LPD basketball is painful to watch at times. Has being in the LPD brought a boys basketball state title to GC? Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. As for the LPD being on the upswing, several squads last year were young, but had talent (something lacking lately). GC went 4-6, so I wouldn't cut on the league too much. JJK even showed improvement. I'll take the Clintwood squad in another year or so in a dogfight with anybody.

Don't get me wrong, Indian Dad. I really hope you're right.

But, I just don't see the LPD getting stronger with enrollment dropping in our schools. I'd love to see a Division 2 football team from the LPD win a state championship, but I'll be honest enough to say I can't see Coeburn, JJ Kelly, Clintwood, or even Powell Valley getting past the Region C in the near future.

As far as Gate City's state championship basektball run, despite the loss, I'm proud of what that team accomplished this year. Whether you love them or hate them, Gate City's basketball program, boys and girls, was the elite in the Region this year. I would not be at all surprised to see Gate City boys playing in the state championship again next year, but, if they do, they won't be representing the LPD.

Make no mistake about it, I was tickled to see GC's run in basketball this year. It does the heart good to see a one and done pick get through the favs like Castlewood. I was disheartened when the Devils got cold and CC won the game. As for the LPD, time will tell the tale. I really feel that you all will see better LPD teams in the years to come at regions.

I think we can gave some good teams in the LPD. I think Appalachia in particular is going to be a team to watch in basketball and football.

I think you'll be surprised at the new CMD being "a baseball district." I think the CMD is going to give the LPD some strong competition for Divison 2 football.

no it was a typo and i am "glad" that you actually knew how to spell that. big pat on the back for you. The CMD has the potential to be a force in everysport. As for FB, there are 2 traditional powerhouses, 2 teams with potential to be good..and a doormat. I'd say the success of the CMD in the next few years depends on GC and Lebanon being their old selves, whether or not VA High and Lee can both sustain winning traditions...and JSB...nah.

My kids are going to school (same as you). The only difference is that they are in class learning instead of playing on the computer like you are. As for following in my footsteps, there's nothing wrong with working in Law Enforcement. The profession is a whole lot more respectable than filling potholes for the town (something you guys are going to be doing if your grammar doesn't improve [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]) It's all good though. In a few minutes the bell will ring, and POOF another troll will be gone!
